I, like a lot of other single gals in their 20's have spent many an evening drinking vino in my PJs and air-dumming to 'all by myself' (not forgetting the kick either).
What is it about Bridget Jones that every woman can relate to?
Firstly, she made us unashamed of our granny pants, she wasn't skinny gorgeous Jennifer Aniston or Cameron Diaz; She was just Bridget, funny, awkward and real. For the first time, we had a chick-flick queen we could relate to, just as she was.
Another reason women everywhere can relate to Miss Jones is Shazza. Most women have a friend like Shazza/are a friend like Shazza. I think Shazza is who every woman turns into after a break-up, (after going through the Bridget phase of necking vodka like water of course). Where would we be without our besties telling everyone to "f*** em" eh?
Then there's Bridgets meddling, too involved Mother and family friends who asked the dreaded "how's your love life?" question. Yes I have been asked that on many an awkward and inappropriate occasion and yes my mother has given me that all-too knowing look when mentioning someone who in her eyes is a potential suitor.
But Bridget wouldn't be relatable at all if she wasn't always falling for the bad boys (although who didn't fall for Hugh Grant when he stepped out of that elevator and rev that car engine).
Although all's well that ends well as, like some lucky ladies do, she get's her perfect happy ending, watching the third film I've never felt happier for a fictional character, I seriously felt like it was my best friend getting her happily ever after!
So all that's left to say is that we love you Bridget, blue soup, embarrassing pole-climbing aside, we love you, just as you are!
