Could 'Friends' BE anymore awesome? I mean the fact the recent Friendsfest in London sold-out within minutes, (I, unfortunately didn't get tickets...sob...sniff...and no, I'm not using tweezers), is proof of how popular the show still is.
Even though I was only 4 months old when the first episode of Friends was aired, and only started watching when I was in my teens. It has become my go-to show when I'm sick or feeling down. I'm even having a marathon as I'm writing this. The box-set was my valentines day gift to myself, sad, I know.
Although I love Paul Rudd as Mike, I always wanted Joey and Phoebe to get together. There were so many hints there were feelings there, (particularly when Joey proposed when he thinks Phoebe is pregnant)and SO much flirting (even Matt Le Blanc and Lisa Kudrow pitched a Joey and Phoebe secret relationship during the show).
Although I'd rather it had been with Joey, I'm happy Phoebe settled down and got her white wedding, as she was my favourite character. There was so much mystery surrounding her dark past yet she had a child-like sweetness and innocence about her. I was always sad Joey always came so close to settling down but never did.
Now, I am probably the only one, who found the Ross and Rachel storyline incredibly frustrating and boring. As a couple, I don't think they worked as well as Monica and Chandler, or even Rachel and Joey (although by that point Ross and Rachel "had" to end up together). I always felt the Ross-Rachel relationship was a little forced. However the final episode wouldn't have been right without them deciding to give it another go (and Rachel getting off the plane).
Monica and Chandlers surprise relationship, in my opinion, saved Friends when it was in danger of becoming dull and repetitive (Ross and Rachel breaking up and nearly getting back together), and was a welcome distraction from the Ross and Rachel drama. They are living proof that opposites attract.
While some people are anxious for a reunion, (there must be a new rumour every year). I feel if there was ever going to be a reunion, it would have been last year on the 20th anniversary of the first episode, and the 10th anniversary of the show ending. I feel it would be so weird to have a reunion now, all the cast have aged dramatically (the latest picture of Matt Le Blanc and Matthew Perry made me feel so old -sob-).
Are you a Friends fan? Were you lucky enough to get Friendsfest tickets? (if so, please tell me how you got through the website crashes). I'd love to know what you think, and if you've never seen Friends...
