Carrie Fisher: Everyones Favourite Princess From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Sad news hit us this Christmas that the talented and hilarious Carrie Fisher had passed away, the latest victim of the 2016 curse.

Carrie was one of the celebrities I'd always dreamed of meeting, me and a colleague were only discussing the other day which 5 celebrities we'd invite a dinner party and Carrie was on the top of my list.

I, like millions of others will be watching Star Wars; the franchise Carrie helped make so great, this weekend with a heavy heart. Carrie not only make side buns cool but made it ok to call guys "nerf-herders".

Although Carrie was most known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, she also had a hilarious role in the comedy Catastrophe along with her beloved pooch Gary. I remember tweeting her about how excited I was for the second series, and she actually liked the tweet (totally didn't fan girl at all). Still the coolest thing to ever happen to me ever!

I was also a massive fan of her written work, her autobiography is one if the most comedic,  real and self-mocking I've ever read. Carrie could definitely laugh at herself and the icon George Lucas made of her through Princess Leia.

Guess all that's left to say, is that although her Worshipfullness is now in a Galaxy far, far away from us, she will be sadly missed, and will remain with us. She left such a mark on the world, not just through Princess Leia but with her public work with mental health. t keast se still have one more Star Wars film with Carries presence to look forward to.

Bridget Jones Diary: Everyone's favourite spinster

I, like a lot of other single gals in their 20's have spent many an evening drinking vino in my PJs and air-dumming to 'all by myself' (not forgetting the kick either)

What is it about Bridget Jones that every woman can relate to?

Firstly, she made us unashamed of our granny pants, she wasn't skinny gorgeous Jennifer Aniston or Cameron Diaz; She was just Bridget, funny, awkward and real. For the first time, we had a chick-flick queen we could relate to, just as she was.

Another reason women everywhere can relate to Miss Jones is Shazza. Most women have a friend like Shazza/are a friend like Shazza. I think Shazza is who every woman turns into after a break-up, (after going through the Bridget phase of necking vodka like water of course). Where would we be without our besties telling everyone to "f*** em" eh?

Then there's Bridgets meddling, too involved Mother and family friends who asked the dreaded "how's your love life?" question. Yes I have been asked that on many an awkward and inappropriate occasion and yes my mother has given me that all-too knowing look when mentioning someone who in her eyes is a potential suitor.

But Bridget wouldn't be relatable at all if she wasn't always falling for the bad boys (although who didn't fall for Hugh Grant when he stepped out of that elevator and rev that car engine).

Although all's well that ends well as, like some lucky ladies do, she get's her perfect happy ending, watching the third film I've never felt happier for a fictional character, I seriously felt like it was my best friend getting her happily ever after!

So all that's left to say is that we love you Bridget, blue soup, embarrassing pole-climbing aside, we love you, just as you are!

Friends: Everyones Favourite Sit-com

Could 'Friends' BE anymore awesome? I mean the fact the recent Friendsfest in London sold-out within minutes, (I, unfortunately didn't get tickets...sob...sniff...and no, I'm not using tweezers), is proof of how popular the show still is.

Even though I was only 4 months old when the first episode of Friends was aired, and only started watching when I was in my teens. It has become my go-to show when I'm sick or feeling down. I'm even having a marathon as I'm writing this. The box-set was my valentines day gift to myself, sad, I know.

Although I love Paul Rudd as Mike, I always wanted Joey and Phoebe to get together. There were so many hints there were feelings there, (particularly when Joey proposed when he thinks Phoebe is pregnant)and SO much flirting (even Matt Le Blanc and Lisa Kudrow pitched a Joey and Phoebe secret relationship during the show).

Although I'd rather it had been with Joey, I'm happy Phoebe settled down and got her white wedding, as she was my favourite character. There was so much mystery surrounding her dark past yet she had a child-like sweetness and innocence about her. I was always sad Joey always came so close to settling down but never did.

Now, I am probably the only one, who found the Ross and Rachel storyline incredibly frustrating and boring. As a couple, I don't think they worked as well as Monica and Chandler, or even Rachel and Joey (although by that point Ross and Rachel "had" to end up together). I always felt the Ross-Rachel relationship was a little forced. However the final episode wouldn't have been right without them deciding to give it another go (and Rachel getting off the plane).

Monica and Chandlers surprise relationship, in my opinion, saved Friends when it was in danger of becoming dull and repetitive (Ross and Rachel breaking up and nearly getting back together), and was a welcome distraction from the Ross and Rachel drama. They are living proof that opposites attract.

While some people are anxious for a reunion, (there must be a new rumour every year). I feel if there was ever going to be a reunion, it would have been last year on the 20th anniversary of the first episode, and the 10th anniversary of the show ending. I feel it would be so weird to have a reunion now, all the cast have aged dramatically (the latest picture of Matt Le Blanc and Matthew Perry made me feel so old -sob-).

Are you a Friends fan? Were you lucky enough to get Friendsfest tickets? (if so, please tell me how you got through the website crashes). I'd love to know what you think, and if you've never seen Friends...

Bloggers About Buffy: Part 1

Yes. Okay I admit it - I am a huge Buffy fan, I have a shelf dedicated purely to Buffy books and of course, my beloved box-set. Even my University dissertation was based on Buffy's doppelgänger, the dark Slayer - Faith.

This iconic show still makes me burst into tears or laughing fits after numerous marathons. Trust me, I watched certain episodes so many times during my final year at Uni, (purely for dissertation purposes of course).

One of the main factors in why Buffy was so successful was Sarah Michelle Gellar. I feel Sarah is a highly underrated  actress. Her speech in "Prophecy Girl" (Season 1 Episode 12), is one of the best scenes in the entire show and still brings me to tears, it showed that underneath all the bravado, strength and skill, Buffy was just an ordinary scared teenage girl who didn't want to die.

Sarah always played the vulnerable and burdened side of Buffy, equally as well as the witty hero who got to kick butt, and always had a comeback. I feel this is what made Buffy relatable to me and a lot of other people, she wasn't perfect.

I also liked the fact Buffy ended up without a romantic partner, despite her dalliances with different romantic interests. It always came back to her and her duty as a Slayer. Her speech to Angel in the final episode about how she was cookie dough,(not quite ready to be enjoyed), but one day she might be cookies (ready for a relationship), was so relatable to me, and showed she was similar to a lot of other 20+ single women.
However, I do like to think that once the burden of being the 'Chosen One' was lifted in the final episode, she settled down with a decent guy.

Two stand-out episodes for me (besides the final episodes "End of Days" and "Chosen" (Season 7 Episodes 21 and 22) are "Innocence" (Season 2 Episode 14) and "The Body" (Season 5 Episode 16).

                          *SPOILER ALERT*

"Innocence" was a brilliant episode, Sarah really showed her acting chops, and a lot of the scenes are heart-breaking to watch,(the scene where Angelus taunts Buffy about their night of passion, which meant so much to her always has me in tears). This episode brilliantly turned a beloved love-interest(Angel)into a hated villain (I personally loved David Boreanaz as a villain - as a romantic interest he was boring in my opinion). This episode was the very metaphor for a guy changing after sleeping with him.

                           *SPOILER ALERT*

One of the greatest and saddest episodes is "The Body". In which we say goodbye to Joyce Summers, Buffy's mum. The whole opening for this episode was skilfully done without music and using long camera-shots and made Buffy's discovery of her mother eerily real. The fact Buffy's mother died of natural causes (the first, and one of the few natural deaths in the series),and not supernatural causes or murder, showed us a new helpless side to Buffy, unable to avenge her mother or blame anyone for her death.

                           *SPOILER ALERT*

I can honestly say I feel Buffy had the best ending of any TV show, in terms of where the show started out and the concept of the show it was a beautiful ending. Buffy was no longer the only "Chosen One", of course ever since "What's My Line Part 1" (Season 2 Episode 9) there has been two Slayers, but the final episode saw every potential Slayer actually become a Slayer, making Buffy one of an army of Slayers. Joss Whedon completely turned the "One girl in all the world" concept of the Slayer upside down, and, as Giles said I thought it was "bloody brilliant"

The last line and shot were just perfect with Willow, Faith and Dawn  asking Buffy what she wants to do next, Buffy just looks at the giant hole that used to be Sunnydale and smiles, contemplating a future as a normal person.

I personally hope Buffy never gets rebooted, as it was perfect just as it was. Any reboots would just trash the brilliant ending, and if it ever does get rebooted, I hope Joss Whedon is in charge and the original cast are involved. Buffy is such an iconic show it deserves to be remembered as that, not a failed reboot that undid all the amazing work.

If you're a Buffy fan I'd love to know your thoughts, and if you've never seen the show...what have you been doing? Get watching!

Grrr Argh.
